Before Dan Ketch became Ghost Rider, a young stunt cyclist named Johnny Blaze was chosen to host the spirit of vengeance--becoming the original Ghost Rider! While he waged a one-man war against the evil forces which threatened the Earth, Blaze also waged a constant war with the spirit within him. Eventually, the brave cyclist was separated from the Ghost Rider spirit, leaving Johnny Blaze with only residual mystic energies to fight against the evil Zarathos!
