The X-Men is a clandestine group of super hero mutants, each possessing an extraordinary ability gained at birth. Their skills were honed by their mentor, Professor X, who sought to create a team of good mutants to save mankind from the threat of Evil Mutants led by Magneto.

Notes: This wave is identified by the Series 1 card backs and the closed hang tabs. All future releases have open hang tabs, though some figure variants do show up on closed hang tab packages in the future 4900 F and 4900 G series. These original releases often saw a Marvel Universe Series 1 card by Impel inside the bubble that matched the figure. They eventually had non-matching Marvel Universe Series 1 cards, then later Toybiz used X-Men Series 1 & 2 cards and '94 Fleer Ultra X-Men cards. This initial series also contains one fairly rare variant: the hollow vs. filled-in chest square on Magneto.
